Ken welcomes Osahon for another Cabana Talk and a review of the Super Bowl Half-Time Show. They invite their good friend Grant Young, a Play Station engineer they met in a Table Talk hosted by Ken and Osahon in 2021. As the Philadelphia Eagles met the Kansas City Chiefs for Super Bowl VIX, the epic half-time performance featured rapper Kendrick Lamar, Pulitzer Prize winner with 17 Grammys (47 nominations), twice named among TIME MAGAZINE’s Most Influential Person of the Year, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and many other awards. Osahon and Grant have been long-time fans - and with enthusiasm watched the show together with great interest. From personal experience, both Osahon and Grant (a graduate of California Baptist University with both Bachelor's and Master's degrees) know white evangelical spaces well and lament much of the misplaced controversy around the famed Hip-Hop artist. They explain the very public, long-time tension between Lamar and Drake; the appearance of Samuel L. Jackson and Serena Williams; and the elegant symbolism on full display throughout the show. Ken, Osahon, and Grant agree with the USA TODAY Opinion that “The Super Bowl was a rejection of Trump’s Vision for America.” It was the first time in history that a sitting President appeared in person at the Super Bowl. He sat through the tepid reception (as many boos as cheers), the conspicuous absence of camera focus on him, the black national anthem, the many black artists who performed, the powerful half-time show, and the sound defeat of his favored Kansas City Chiefs. His later Truth Social posts confirmed that he was not pleased. This podcast is a lively, informative discussion of an event viewed by 128 million people around the globe. We launch the new year with Osahon Obazuaye - the presidential election year looms large. Osahon shares his return to pastoral ministry - this time in a church populated by a significant percentage of immigrants. Ken and Osahon discuss a book explored by Tim Alberta in his bestselling book, The Kingdom the Power and the Glory. Brian Zahnd raises a key question - how does the biblical reference to Babylon play out in our current political climate? Alberta considers Zahnd to be a hopeful thinker. Osahon shares his most recent take on Charlie Kirk and Eric Metaxas. A new documentary is coming soon to amplify Metaxas' version of Bonheoffer, which Ken and Osahon consider well off the mark. Osahon reflects on the Obama legacy and issues a chilling warning of what just may happen in November. Ken responds with the challenge that we must do all we can to avoid another four years of chaos and rancor. SHOW NOTES

Ken welcomes back Osahon Obazuaye to discuss the recent spate of mass shootings and the widely reported release of body-cam video of the altercation that led to the tragic death of 29-year-old Tyre Nichols at about 8:30 PM, January 7, 2023, in Memphis, Tennessee. Ken solicits Osahon's perspective. He remembers that Osahon could not watch the deeply disturbing 8-minute video that revealed George Floyd's murder to the entire world. It's too triggering, Osahon told Ken back then. For the same reason, Osahon will not watch this traumatizing video either. While they both affirm the Memphis Police Chief, C.J. Davis' quick decision to fire the officers involved and just as quickly filed criminal charges, Ken and Osahon discuss the racial dynamics, comparing the overall development of truth and consequence with past episodes, of which there have been entirely too many. They review their partnership in leading their Table Talk - focussed on Nikole Hannah Jones' Project 1619. A growing and troubling political narrative is attacking "wokeness," Critical Race Theory, and specifically this project - 1619. In this Cabana talk, the two guys vigorously challenge that narrative.

Ken and Osahon Obazuaye talk about hip-hop and one of rap's biggest names: Kanye West, who just won Billboard's top honors as a "Christian artist." Ken remembers Bob Dylan's conversion to Christianity and his classic album, Slow Train Coming (1979). Osahon names Kanye's first and favorite album - College Drop Out as the one that captured his imagination and keen loyalty. His follow-up album, Through the Wire, was born out of a tragic automobile accident that could well have ended Kanye's life. Kanye made the general headlines with a criticism of George Bush. Kanye and his mother, a college English professor, were very close. When she died at age 58 due to a botched surgery, Kanye drifted into deep grief. The two discuss Kanye's high-profile conversion to Christianity. Jesus is King, according to Osahon, is not a high-quality album. Osahon discusses both salvation and "soul care." Donda, named for his mother, is the album that won the Billboard Awards (primarily related to the volume of sales). The Kanye West Foundation has engaged a broad range of causes, few of the right-wing.

Ken welcomes his good friend Osahon Obasuaye for the first in a series they call, "Cabana Talks." Cancel culture has become what Osahon calls, the Cult of Cancellation. It seems to be everywhere. Julie Roys exposes John MacArthur's misdeeds; both have something to learn from the "N" word - nuance. Ken asks about Osahon's take on the Will Smith/Chris Rock episode - and how it impacted him personally. Caught in the crossfire is Summer of Soul and Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson; Venus and Serena Williams, and their film, King Richard, too. Osahon was moved by Ken's interview with David Swanson, and his assertion that the white church needs to be "rediscipled." Osahon's unique perspective and clarity of insight make this a poignant and timely podcast.
