Ken welcomes Kristina Flanagan, retired psychotherapist, MSW, Vedic astrologer and soon-to-be graduate of Richard Rohr's Living School. At Kristina's invitation (after Ken invited himself!), Ken and Carolyn spent a few days in a beautiful casita on her property, a lovely expanse of New Mexico's rolling hills and meadows just south of Santa Fe. She, her architect, and contractor completed the pleasing structures just a few years ago, a place of retreat and renewal she calls "La Molina." Kristina shares her journey - from her undergraduate years at Stanford University to her focus on social work, therapy, Enneagram, and eight visits to India. More recently, she discovered the writings of Fr. Richard Rohr.
Kristina has served on the Boards of Directors at both the San Francisco and Santa Fe Operas. She is a lover of art - sculptures, paintings, and water features adorn La Molina at every turn. For more than a decade, her passion has been her horses. She is Chairman of the Board of a non-profit called A Chance of a Lifetime where she works closely with the organization's founders. They are authentic "horse-whisperers." The website says this: "Our environment fosters interaction and companionship with the herd where we build respect, trust, patience, empowerment, awareness, acceptance and vulnerability as we nurture a deeper experience of the horse–human relationship." Kristina relays her rich experience of building and living at La Molina. Ken is now a witness of how this extraordinary place transforms, heals, and awakens the spirit.

I have committed my heart and energies to COLT because of my direct experience of transformation working with Erica, Joost, their horses, and mine. COLT’s vision of reuniting human and equine hearts is alive for me and I cherish the opportunity to support that vision in the lives of others. There are 7 equines on my property today, of all histories and talents. My experience within nonprofit Board work is primarily in the arts, visual and performing. I can think of no greater extension of that history than to the art of partnered horsemanship, available to all in a time of universal healing.
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to honor transformational healing between humans and horses: Walking in Beauty. Being a Living Sanctuary, one pause at a time. We slow things down. Our horses have the skill to mirror hope; to revive the spirit of those who have been broken by abuse, negligence and hardship. Our vision is alive and ripples through individuals, families, and communities, cultivating safety through connection, resilience and hope.
A Chance of a Lifetime is a New Mexico 501(c)3 not for profit located in Santa Fe County with a focus on the horse/human relationship and its potential for healing. Our goals stretch far beyond rescuing and adopting out horses. We are one of the few organizations which bridges the gap left by horse rescues. We give safe haven to horses that have been brutalized and/or starved and usually suffer from PTSD.
We are a place where horses deemed dangerous, untouchable or worthless are treated with deep compassion and provided the time to heal from often times unthinkable trauma.
