Kristina Flanagan - Therapist, Horse Whisperer

Current BWM Interview
Meet Kristina Flanagan
Kristina Flanagan, MSW, is a retired psychotherapist and Vedic astrologer, and a bit of a spiritual gypsy. She moved to the Bay Area from New York City 25 years ago but now calls Santa Fe, New Mexico home. Her spiritual path has included marriage within the Episcopal church, 15 years of practice as a pastoral counselor, intense study of Vedanta and Sanskrit, the Enneagram, and horsemanship. She serves on the board of the San Francisco and Santa Fe Operas with a particular passion for music education and the profound symbolism and musical thematics of Wagner’s Ring Cycle. She is a proud mother of two grown women and a grandmother.

Kristina will complete her course in Fr. Richard Rohr’s Living School this summer at the Center for Action and Contemplation.

A Chance of a Lifetime

Kristina (President) and professional Horse-Whisperer and co-founder of A Chance of a Lifetime, Joost Lammers.

KRISTINA FLANAGAN, PRESIDENT

I have committed my heart and energies to COLT because of my direct experience of transformation working with Erica, Joost, their horses, and mine. COLT’s vision of reuniting human and equine hearts is alive for me and I cherish the opportunity to support that vision in the lives of others. There are 7 equines on my property today, of all histories and talents. My experience within nonprofit Board work is primarily in the arts, visual and performing. I can think of no greater extension of that history than to the art of partnered horsemanship, available to all in a time of universal healing.

OUR MISSION
Our mission is to honor transformational healing between humans and horses: Walking in Beauty. Being a Living Sanctuary, one pause at a time. We slow things down. Our horses have the skill to mirror hope; to revive the spirit of those who have been broken by abuse, negligence and hardship. Our vision is alive and ripples through individuals, families, and communities, cultivating safety through connection, resilience and hope.

A Chance of a Lifetime is a New Mexico 501(c)3 not for profit located in Santa Fe County with a focus on the horse/human relationship and its potential for healing. Our goals stretch far beyond rescuing and adopting out horses. We are one of the few organizations which bridges the gap left by horse rescues. We give safe haven to horses that have been brutalized and/or starved and usually suffer from PTSD.
We are a place where horses deemed dangerous, untouchable or worthless are treated with deep compassion and provided the time to heal from often times unthinkable trauma.
